바이올린으로 음악을 시작해서 라이프치히 게반트하우스 오케스트라의 바이올리니스트 시절 팀파니에 관심이 생겨 배우기 시작해 나중에는 팀파니스트로서 아홉 명의 후보들 중 구스타프 말러에게 선택되어 뉴욕 필하모닉의 솔로 팀파니스트를 지내고 세계 최초의 팀파니 스쿨을 설립한 팀파니의 선구자 알프레드 프리즈(Alfred P. Friese 1876-1971)와 50년간 고향의 하트포드 심포니에서 팀파니를 연주하며 1940년대 후반 미국 대학 거의 최초의 퍼커션 학과와 퍼커션 앙상블을 만든 팀파니스트이자 교육자 알렉산더 르팩(Alexander Lepak 1920-2009)이 함께 쓴 팀파니 종합 교본입니다.
1954년 출판되어 Friese-Lepak Timpani Method로도 잘 알려진 팀파니 레슨의 고전이자 베스트셀러로 총 4개의 파트에 기본 이론, 테크닉 연습, 인토네이션, 클래식 스탠더드 레파토리 곡들의 악보가 수록되어 있습니다.
