1993년 모던 드러머 매거진이 선정한 25 Greatest Drum Books 중 2위로 선정된 이 책은 드럼에 관한 광범위하고도 실용적인 교본이자 기초 베이스 드럼 연습용으로도 사용할 수 있는 교본입니다. 저자인 테드 리드는 1908년생으로 알려져 있고 1951년에서 1970년 사이에 이 책을 쓴 것으로 추정되며 1996년에 알프레드에서 정식 출판됐습니다.
초보자 뿐만 아니라 중상급 드러머들도 꾸준한 연습용으로 사용할 수 있으며 액센트를 디들이나 더블 스트로크 등으로 해석해서 다양한 방법으로 연습할 수 있습니다. 스네어 드럼과 베이스 드럼의 다양한 리듬과 액센트 조합으로 8분 음표, 점 8분 음표, 16분 음표, 셋잇단 8분 음표와 16분 음표 등의 연습을 통해 더 확장된 솔로가 가능하게 하는 교본이며 스네어와 베이스 드럼을 탐탐이나 심벌 등 다른 악기들의 연주로 활용하면 거의 무한에 가까운 다양한 조합으로 연습할 수 있습니다.
